Artist's Description
Photograph of Nikolsky Cathedral bell tower, digitally enhanced with textures,
St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral is a major baroque Orthodox cathedral in the western part of Saint Petersburg (Russia). The marine regimental church was built on the bank of the Kryukov Canal in 1753-1762 to a design by Savva Chevakinsky.
Its picture-perfect canal side setting, baroque spires and golden domes make the ice-blue Nikolsky Cathedral is one of the city's best-loved churches. Nicknamed the Sailor's Church (Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors); it contains many 18th-century icons and a finely carved wooden altar. A graceful bell tower overlooks the canal, which is crossed by the Staro-Nikolsky bridge (from this bridge, you can see at least seven bridges, more than from any other spot in the city).

About Elena Nosyreva
I was born and raised in Russia. I got my PhD degree in biology in St Petersburg State University (Russia) and continued my research work in the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1999, I moved to the United States to pursue my neuroscience research at the UT Southwestern Medical Center located in Dallas, TX. Being a scientist has been very rewarding in many aspects including creativity. However, I felt a compelling need to further express myself by taking an artistic journey. My artistic experimentation has evolved into a tremendously exciting form - mixed media collage, fine art photography, and digital art. I like experimenting with my photographs. I combine multiple images, textures, to crystallize an image that says something new...
