Artist's Description

Suzdal is a historic small town east of Moscow, Russia. It was once the capital of several Russian principalities and has many examples of early Russian architecture. It is probably the most interesting of the Golden Ring cities. The history of the town dates back to at least the year 1024. After a decline in political importance, the town rose in prominence as a religious center with numerous monasteries and a remarkable ratio of churches to citizens: at one point, forty churches for four hundred families. Today, the town operates as an important tourist center, featuring many fine examples of old Russian architecture - most of them churches and monasteries. Walking through the town one might get the feeling that every third building is a church. Although having over ten thousand residents, Suzdal still retains the look and feel of a small village with streams and meadows everywhere nearby and chicken and livestock a common sight on the city streets, some of which are unpaved. Elena Nosyreva

I was born and raised in Russia. I got my PhD degree in biology in St Petersburg State University (Russia) and continued my research work in the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1999, I moved to the United States to pursue my neuroscience research at the UT Southwestern Medical Center located in Dallas, TX. Being a scientist has been very rewarding in many aspects including creativity. However, I felt a compelling need to further express myself by taking an artistic journey. My artistic experimentation has evolved into a tremendously exciting form - mixed media collage, fine art photography, and digital art. I like experimenting with my photographs.
