Description
Hotel Newland, Cedars, Dallas, Texas.
Photography, digital painting.
The Cedars Art Gallery is located on the ground floor of the historic Newland Hotel in The Cedars Arts District. George A. Carden erected the building on S. Akard in 1922. Upon completion, it housed Dallas' thirty-second Piggly-Wiggly store. The second story of the building served as a hotel and, according to some, a brothel. The building, now owned by Paul Cook, provides urban lofts, artisan studios, and is home to numerous urban professionals.
The Newland Hotel is also an integral part of The Cedars Arts District, an area roughly bounded by the Trinity River to the west, Central Expressway to the east, I 30 to the north, and Corinth Street to the south. The Cedars Arts District is home to a wide variety of artists, restaurants, entertainment venues, and urban pioneers. Over the past few years, The Cedars has experienced tremendous growth as more people discover its charm. Plans for more are on the way.
